Assess inspection images for AI data licensing

A practical inventory for industrial image archives: labels, capture conditions, coverage, and restrictions.

Inspection images can document products, components, and defects. Their usefulness depends on the task and the information accompanying each image. Treat licensing as a possibility to assess, not a guaranteed outlet for an existing archive.

Count meaningful examples

Record image counts, object types, production periods, and the balance of normal and abnormal examples. Near-identical frames can inflate an archive without adding much coverage. Explain how duplicates or repeated captures are identified.

Describe the labels

List label categories, who assigned them, and whether labels describe an entire image, a bounding box, or a pixel-level region. Document uncertain labels and changes in labeling rules. Avoid calling labels “ground truth” without explaining how they were verified.

Record capture conditions

Image dimensions, lighting, camera position, materials, and inspection stage can matter to an evaluator. Changes in equipment or process may produce distinct subsets. Note these differences so the collection can be reviewed honestly.

Review the contents before sharing

Images may expose customer parts, serial numbers, workspaces, or people. Describe those issues in the initial inquiry and establish an appropriate review process before providing files. We do not accept image uploads in the first assessment.
