How to sell data on Opendatabay: requirements and fees
Understand business verification, transaction commissions, and the route to listing data products.
Opendatabay is a marketplace for providers and customers, with options including datasets, API access and AI licenses. Registered businesses can apply to become verified providers. Listings create a selling route; they do not guarantee a customer.
Accepted assets
Commercial datasets, AI training datasets, API access, Data reports, Managed data access. These categories describe platform coverage, not acceptance of your specific archive.
Seller eligibility
Registered businesses only; individuals and self-employed providers cannot list data products.
Requirements and minimums
Business registration and contact details, company profile and data-offering description; provider verification precedes listings. Dataset volume minimum not publicly stated in the reviewed onboarding documentation.
Published fees
No upfront listing fee. Progressive commission of 30% to 5% per completed transaction; the current USD schedule reaches 5% at $250,001. Confirm the exact fee in the official calculator.
How to become a verified provider
Register on the official website, select the seller role, supply business details and describe the products you plan to offer. Complete the company profile and submit it for verification. The documentation advertises a one-to-two-business-day review. Approval allows you to begin listing; it is not a sale.
Prepare company and product information
Have your registration details, business address, website and sales contact ready. Explain who collected the data, what it covers and its intended uses. The onboarding documentation recommends a company-domain email. Prepare licensing scope and delivery details for the product discussion.
Understand how transaction fees work
Current documentation uses a progressive rate within transaction-value bands, not a single flat percentage for every sale. Use the official calculator to inspect a proposed price. Do not calculate your payout from an older rate table or assume separate sales combine to qualify for a lower rate.
Payment and access questions
The live fee schedule states that marketplace prices moved to USD on October 1, 2026. Provider documentation still uses GBP bands and mentions a £100 payout threshold. Confirm the current payout currency, threshold, refund handling and applicable agreement directly. Product access can use purchases, subscriptions, APIs or licenses; specify what a customer receives.
When another route may fit
Datarade offers a separate provider-marketing workflow with subscription and commission choices. Troveo focuses on managed content licensing. Compare the role and preparation burden alongside price before selecting a channel.
